2022 PGA Championship odds and field: Surprising golf choices and forecasts from a top model that correctly predicted the Masters

Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa has hosted the PGA Championship the most times of any course. The PGA Championship will return to Southern Hills for the fifth time in 2022, the last time being in 2007 when Tiger Woods won his 13th major. Woods’ availability for the 2022 PGA Championship is in question, but he was in the same boat leading up to the Masters, and he still made the cut. When play begins on Thursday, May 19, the PGA Championship 2022 will have a field as strong as any on tour, even without Woods.

In the current 2022 PGA Championship odds from Caesars Sportsbook, world No. 1 and Masters champion Scottie Scheffler is 12-1. At 11-1, Jon Rahm has the best PGA Championship odds for 2022. Rory McIlroy (12-1) and Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas, all 14-1, have won this tournament previously. Before you make any 2022 PGA Championship predictions, check out SportsLine’s golf predictions and projected leaderboard.

Since the PGA Tour returned in June of 2020, SportsLine’s proprietary model, designed by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been on fire. In fact, since then, it’s won over $7,500 on its best bets, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model was all over Scottie Scheffler’s first career major title victory heading into the weekend at the 2022 Masters. In addition, despite being a whopping 40-1 long shot, McClure’s top bets included Collin Morikawa winning the 2021 Open Championship outright. Jon Rahm’s (10-1) maiden major title victory came at the 2021 U.S. Open, and the model was all over it. Even though Rahm was two strokes behind the leader heading into the weekend, the model still predicted him to win.

This model has also nailed an incredible eight majors heading into the weekend. Anyone who has kept track of it has witnessed significant gains.

Now that the field for the PGA Championship 2022 is starting to take shape, SportsLine ran the event 10,000 times and came up with some startling results. Visit SportsLine right now to see the anticipated PGA Championship leaderboard for 2022.

Predictions for the PGA Championship in 2022:

At the 2022 PGA Championship, the model predicts that Brooks Koepka, a four-time major champion and one of the favorites, will falter at Southern Hills and finish outside the top 10. In 2018 and 2019, Koepka was the last player to successfully defend his PGA Championship title, finishing first in both years.

The two-time PGA Championship winner, on the other hand, has battled hard in 2021-22. Koepka has now missed the cut six times this season, including at the Masters. Koepka’s woes may be traced back to his lack of precision off the tee. He is ranked 170th in terms of driving accuracy percentage (54.18), which could spell difficulty for him at Southern Hills. He’s not a strong favorite to win it all, and the PGA Championship field in 2022 offers significantly better value.

Viktor Hovland, a 20-1 long shot, makes a strong push at the crown. Anyone searching for a big payoff should look for him. Hovland is ranked No. 5 in the world and No. 7 in the FedEx Cup, making him one of just three golfers in the top seven in both categories.

PGA Championships

The PGA Championship is the only major in which Hovland has failed to finish in the top 25, although he’s in the best shape of his career right now. Half of his previous ten tournaments have resulted in top-10 finishes, including back-to-back victories late last year.

The Norwegian possesses a strong long game, ranking 11th in strokes gained off the tee (.588) and third in strokes gained approaching the green (1.019). He’s also improved on the greens, as Hovland has broken the top 50 in strokes gained putting after ranking 115th and 99th the previous two seasons. Only two other players on the PGA Tour had a higher proportion of pars than Hovland (28.07 percent).

How to make PGA Championship picks in 2022:

The model is also looking for two other golfers with chances of 20-1 or longer to make a comeback. Anyone who backs these long shots has a good chance of winning big. They are only seen here.
