The Taylormade M6 irons are large profile game improvement clubs that use a Speedbridge across the cavity to create a hot face and tons of distance.  Its wider and bigger for a larger sweet spot and packs plenty of forgiveness.

Taylormade’s latest iteration of their super game improvement irons, the M6, focuses heavily on maximizing distance and forgiveness.  The 2019 irons bring a new piece of technology that Taylormade refers to as Speedbridge which spans the width of the cavity on the back of every iron and is aimed to pump up ball speed.

The TaylorMade M6 has a large profile for an iron.  Many would consider this a super game improvement iron just by its  sheer size.  A healthy amount of offset is present.  As with many other irons in this category, the edges are rounded and blend well with the soft corners.

Sound & Feel

The feel of the M6 iron is similar to that of a fairway wood or even a driver.  When you strike the ball, its like a rocket off the face.   Every iron shot felt like it was in the sweet spot and generated a deep click.  It has that spring-like effect where you don’t have to swing hard for it to go far.

The M6’s biggest benefit is its forgiveness.  Forgiveness through the turf on imperfect strikes, and forgiveness on distance when you miss the center of the face.  Golf is a game of misses, and its hard to miss with the M6.  The ball explodes off the face and can really help with the slower swing speeds.  It’s also for the player looking for an easier iron to hit consistently.  While I’m partial towards a smaller profile iron, the M6 was so easy to hit and get up in the air that I could easily find use for these as a long iron replacement.

I have to mention the lofts since they are significantly stronger than traditional irons.  I noticed in my testing that the spin rates are quite high.  Without sterngthening the lofts, these would balloon and lose a lot of distance.  The takeaway here is that you don’t have to have an aggressive angle of attack to get a ball to stop on the green.  Lower lofts plus higher spin made these a cinch to get close to pins.

Super game improvement irons have come a long way in the past few years.  The Taylormade M6 is no exception.  Packed with forgiveness, it still gives you enough spin to hold greens.  Lofts are certainly strong with the M6 but only to adjust for the increase in spin.  The big body and wide sole makes this ideal for any golfer that struggles with consistent contact but still wants to get some performance from their irons.
