According to the Official World Golf Ranking, Viktor Hovland has reached new heights in his career.
As a result of his victory over Richard Bland in a playoff and the victory at the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday morning, Hovland has risen to No. 3 in the latest world rankings, just behind his former college opponent Collin Morikawa and world No. 1 Jon Rahm.
In the previous rankings, Hovland was ranked fifth, but his performance moved him up to fourth and Dustin Johnson to fifth. Rory McIlroy, who finished solo third in Dubai, moved up two spots to sixth, while Justin Thomas fell to seventh and Xander Schauffele fell to eighth. Justin Thomas was the only player to finish in the top ten in Dubai.
Bland, on the other hand, is now on the verge of qualifying for multiple majors after finishing runner-up at the PGA Championship. His finish moved him up to No. 53, a career high, from No. 80. Despite the fact that Luke List won the Farmers Insurance Open on Saturday, he moved up 95 spots to No. 56 in the world rankings, his playoff victory over Will Zalatoris earned him a spot in the Masters and PGA Championship.
Other notable climbers include Jason Day, who went from No. 129 to No. 83, Sam Horsfield, who went from No. 104 to No. 82, and Aaron Rai, who went from No. 114 to No. 92 in the rankings.
